Benefits

The United State Congress is deliberating over a proposal to create a $2 billion Highway Safety Data Improvement Program (HSDIP) that will create a "Highway Basemap." GTMA has already begun the process of educating key policymakers on how you will play a key role in the network data collection that will take this "basemap" concept from proposal to reality. Our primary goal at GTMA over the next few years will be to provide a laser-like focus to ensure that HSDIP is enacted into law and to help policymakers as they grapple with how to effectively implement it. GTMA members will have opportunities to weigh in on the various aspects of the HSDIP proposal and to make suggestions on how to improve it.

As a brand new trade association, it will take time to develop many of the traditional benefits that come from association membership. While those benefits are vital to our future, we strongly feel that our efforts today need to focus on creating technical committees to provide input and guidance for policymakers working to develop HSDIP. For now, our greatest member benefit is to provide you with the opportunity to help shape your future. With or without your voice, Congress is going to enact and the Federal Highway Administration is going to implement a data collection program. We hope you will join your voice with others in our industry to improve this proposal and help make GTMA an association that reflects your values.

Founding Members

"Leaders establish the vision for the future and set the strategy for getting there; they cause change. They motivate and inspire others to go in the right direction and they, along with everyone else, sacrifice to get there."
-John Kotter, Professor, Harvard Business School and author of "Leading Change."

The rapid change in technology and the efforts of policymakers have combined to create a unique moment in time for geospatial technology firms. Given the relatively short period of time in which network data collection has been possible, we find ourselves unprepared to actively engage the policymaking process. GTMA is working to change that situation. We need your help!

Fortunately, we have an excellent proposal to invest $2 billion in the creation of a highway safety data system that will drastically change how transportation decisions are made. GTMA is seeking leaders with a vision and passion for ensuring that this proposal is properly developed and implemented. Wherever your company fits in relation to geospatial data collection, if you are willing to work we need your voice. Others will join GTMA after we move through this initial, awkward stage of developing an association while engaging in the policy discussion. If you are interested in shaping rather than reading about the future, we welcome you as a founding member of GTMA.

"When it comes to the future, there are three kinds of people: Those who let it happen, those who make it happen, and those who wonder what happened."
-John M. Richardson, Jr.
